1998 by the ITU as highest bitrate member of G.729 family of codecs.
G.729 annex E is designed to
surpass the level of robustness and quality offered by the public switched
telephone network (PSTN). And for this reason, is the favorite candidate for
solutions that are used in competing the legacy telephone system, like the
various initiatives from cable providers to offer local telephony services.
